There are people in this world who can't have children of their own and can't afford to adopt; who lose their children to drugs, violence, suicide, accidents and even fraudulent reports to child protective services; and there are even people (such as myself) who dream of the joy of parenthood yet are financially unable to support a family and thus refrain from reproduction.

And then some selfish, immature, impulsive moron like Mr. Raines comes along and destroys something beautiful and innocent that many of us would give anything to cherish and nurture as our own. If my mother weren't working right now, I would call her up just to remind her of how much I love her. I'm glad I have the presence of mind to tell her every time I talk to her, because I could have just as easily been the offspring of a loser like this guy.

I hope the mother of the deceased girl has found a way to cope. That incident will haunt her for the rest of her life.
