Boy, 4, Calls 911 to Find Mom Who Left Him Home Alone
A 4-year-old boy in Deltona called 911 to look for his mother after she left him home alone, and a Volusia County dispatcher kept him talking until deputies could find the house, according to the sheriff's office. The boy's mother was arrested days later on a child neglect charge. The call came in on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010. The boy told the dispatcher he was by himself and did not know his mother's phone number, according to authorities and a recording of the call. "I don't know my mom's number. I thought I called my mom," he said. Asked whether anyone was there with him, he answered, "Nobody." The dispatcher stayed on the line with the child for about eight minutes while deputies worked to trace the call, the agency said. Investigators reported checking four homes in the area before they located the boy. When deputies reached him, the boy told them his mother had left to see a doctor and buy beer, according to the arrest report. A deputy estimated she had been gone about five hours, though earlier accounts placed the boy alone for at least two hours. The mother, Jocelyn Villot, 25, told investigators an aunt was supposed to be watching the boy, the report said. Charging documents stated that Villot had actually gone out with friends and that a CVS surveillance camera recorded her trying to pick up prescription medication without a signed prescription. Villot was booked into the Volusia County jail on a child neglect charge and held on $5,000 bond, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies said she faced an additional charge after she tried to bring drugs into the jail. The boy was placed with his grandparents. ·
