An 11-year-old boy who was home alone in Hollywood hid inside the house and stayed on the phone with a 911 dispatcher while intruders broke a rear window and ransacked the home, according to Hollywood police, who arrested three teenagers and released the recording of the call in June 2012.

The boy was watching television after his father left to pick up dinner when he heard a loud knock at the front door followed by the sound of breaking glass at a back window, according to the station. The boy called his father, who told him to dial 911.

On the recording, the boy can be heard whispering that he was trying to stay out of sight. "I'm trying to hide," he told the dispatcher, according to CBS Miami. When the operator questioned whether the break-in was genuine, the boy answered, "It's real. It's real," and reported, "It's two people. It's two people." His dog stayed with him as he waited.

A Hollywood police officer reached the house and pulled the boy to safety through his bedroom window before the intruders found him, according to the station. Officers then arrested three 17-year-olds nearby.

One of the suspects was carrying jewelry belonging to the boy's mother, according to police, who said each teenager would be charged with burglary, grand theft and possession of burglary tools. Investigators said the intruders had ransacked the home and destroyed the boy's school awards.

The boy reported two people inside the home during the call, while police said three were taken into custody. All three suspects were minors.
