Adam Crosser was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 13 years in prison after 21-year-old William Michael England III was stabbed to death in Akron early on Aug. 19, 2010.

Akron police arrested Crosser, 29, after he told a 911 dispatcher he had just stabbed a friend during an argument on a residential street, according to police. Police said Crosser and England were walking near the intersection of Erskine and Austin avenues around 2 a.m. when the argument turned violent.

Crosser called 911 himself, admitted stabbing England and asked dispatchers to send an ambulance to the scene. Officers who responded found England suffering from stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An obituary published days later in the Akron Beacon Journal described England as a father who loved music and spent much of his time writing his own lyrics.

Crosser was arrested and initially charged with murder in Summit County, court records show. A criminal case was filed against him in Summit County Common Pleas Court under case number CR-2010-09-2501.

Ohio prison records show Crosser was ultimately convicted of voluntary manslaughter, a lesser homicide charge than murder, and sentenced to 13 years in prison. He was held at the Richland Correctional Institution under state inmate number A594983.
