911 Call for West New York Domestic Dispute Ends in Fatal Shooting
West New York police officers were sent to a residence on 59th Street at about 6:30 p.m. on June 3, 2022, after a 911 call involving a domestic dispute. During the initial encounter, Kevin Colindres, 32, fired a weapon at officers while standing in the vestibule of the home. One officer fired his weapon. One officer sustained a non-fatal injury. Officers took cover and maintained the scene. About 15 minutes later, Colindres came out of a neighboring door and ran down the sidewalk, visibly armed with two firearms. An officer fired, fatally wounding him. Officers and emergency medical personnel rendered first aid. Two firearms were recovered near Colindres, and one additional firearm was recovered on his person. He was pronounced dead at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen at 7:13 p.m. A state grand jury later voted not to file criminal charges against the officer. Watch the video of this incident here.
