French pro skier and rally driver Guerlain Chicherit crashed his car on in Tignes, France, while attempting to break the world record for longest car ramp jump.

Chicherit, 35, walked away from the crash but was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

"I have to stay in the hospital for the night just for safety. I'm all OK," he wrote on Facebook after the incident.

Chicherit was driving an adapted Mini on a ramp built specifically for the record attempt. The jump took place at the base of the ski area in Tignes, where Chicherit is from and the site of X Games Tignes from 2010 to 2013.

After taking off the ramp, his car dove down and flipped several times upon landing.

According to a statement posted on his Facebook page, "Guerlain is doing good and has already reviewed video footage of the jump to see what went wrong.

He got out of the car himself, slightly injured, and will now get a precautionary MRI to check that everything is fine."

The record for longest ramp jump in a four-wheeled vehicle is 332 feet, set by rally driver and three-time X Games RallyCross gold medalist Tanner Foust on May 30, 2011, at the Indianapolis 500.

Chicherit was aiming for a jump of 360 feet. His record attempt was originally scheduled for last Sunday, but foggy weather delayed the event until Tuesday.

Last year in Tignes, Chicherit backflipped his Mini, an incident that garnered more than 4 million video views online. Chicherit, a former competitive big-mountain skier, started racing in the French Rally Cup in 2003 and took fifth place in the 2010 Dakar rally.

In 2009, he started his own ski company, Coreupt, which declared bankruptcy in 2012.
He briefly returned to competitive freeskiing, with appearances at the 2011 Kirkwood, Calif., stop of the Freeride World Tour and the return of the World Extreme Skiing Championships in Valdez, Alaska. But in recent years, he's focused mainly on his rally career.

"It was hard to give up skiing," Chicherit told ESPN.com in a previous interview. "But it was my dream to be rally car driver, so I did what I had to do."
