Metalworking machinery is VERY dangerous. Woodworking machinery will cut you, perhaps badly, but that is all. When you are caught in a metal lathe or mill, they don't stop, they just drag you in and crush you completely. The operate slowly, but with tremendous power. If you are going to have an accident with a circular saw, you can jam a piece of wood into it, and it will stop. If you try and jam a piece of wood into a lathe, it will just combine it with your body as it crushes you.
