Women Killed After High Speed Crash Involving C8 Corvette Lake Balboa
Early Wednesday, a fatal collision occurred in Los Angeles when a Corvette traveling at a high speed struck another vehicle, resulting in two deaths and one hospitalization, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The incident was reported around 3:45 a.m. at the intersection of Balboa and Victory boulevards. A white Corvette, moving northbound on Balboa at speeds estimated between 90-100 mph, collided with an eastbound Honda on Victory Boulevard. Authorities are investigating whether the Corvette disobeyed a traffic signal at the intersection. The collision's force propelled the Honda into a nearby shopping center sign, significantly damaging both the sign and the vehicle. The Honda was then redirected back into the intersection, where it was found heavily damaged. The Honda's driver, a woman in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Corvette's male driver succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, while a female passenger from the Corvette is receiving medical treatment. The police have interviewed the surviving passenger, though her statements have not been released. The crash site is near the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area's northern boundary, a region where locals report frequent late-night speeding on Balboa Boulevard. The area, which includes a high school and a bus stop, has raised concerns among residents about vehicular safety. A witness in the vicinity described the crash sound as resembling an earthquake. LAPD Sgt. Hector Gutierrez commented on the prevalence of high-speed driving in the area, especially late at night, emphasizing the tragic outcomes of such behavior. Following the crash, emergency responders had to extricate two individuals trapped in one of the vehicles. The aftermath saw the Honda overturned and the Corvette in a strip mall parking lot, with an engine block ejected onto the lot. The intersection remained closed for investigation. |
