Footage has emerged of the moment a woman on an electric scooter drove off a train platform and on to the tracks.
At least five have-a-go-heroes jumped on to the tracks at Mooroolbark station to help the woman in her 50s and her pet dog.
CCTV footage, obtained by the Herald Sun using Freedom of Information laws after a battle with government departments, shows the woman heading along a platform at the eastern suburbs station just after 9am on May 6.
She reverses backwards after the train doors have closed and out of the frame of the CCTV cameras.
The scooter appears to begin a turn but, unable to complete it safely, the woman crashes into the rear driver's cabin and falls on to the tracks.
It is unclear if the woman was trying to catch the Lilydale-bound train after the doors had closed or waiting to board a city-bound service via the first carriage.
Trains in both directions depart from platform 1 during the day because there is only a single section of track.
The woman lies on the ground for about 30 seconds before pulling herself up on to one of the tracks.
Several commuters go to help the woman before paramedics arrive several minutes later. She is then stretchered off.
Metro spokesman Larisa Tait said staff immediately alerted the operator's control centre to stop trains and called an ambulance.
She encouraged passengers using mobility scooters to board at the first door.
"Our drivers provide a boarding ramp for customers using mobility aids or wheelchairs and ascertain which station the customer is travelling to, to ensure they are assisted when disembarking,'' Ms Tait said.
"There are dedicated access/waiting points on the platform marked with either a white or yellow rectangle for customers with special needs.
"We commend and appreciate the assistance of the bystanders who jumped on to the tracks to assist the woman.''
Ambulance Victoria spokesman Susannah Hicks said paramedics treated the woman at the scene and took her to Maroondah Hospital with hip pain.
