Waterpark in Sweden Explodes
A large fire broke out on Monday morning at Liseberg's new water park Oceana Vattenværld that NCC is building. On Monday evening, the police stated that one person is still missing and 16 people have had to seek medical care for minor injuries. The alarm about the fire at Oceana Vattenvärld came in at 10 o'clock on Monday morning. According to Liseberg, the fire started at one of the water attractions outside the building and then spread to parts of the pool hall. During the day, black smoke spread over central Gothenburg and several explosions occurred in the fire-ravaged area. It is not yet clear how the fire started. What we believe is that it was in connection with a work phase. So it doesn't seem to have spontaneously ignited or been planted or anything like that, she says and continues: - But this is terrible, we are appalled, it is a disaster. She also says that some employees have had a medical check-up, but it should not be about any personal injuries. She cannot yet answer how many construction workers were on the site at the time. One person is missing One person is still missing, according to police information at 8 p.m. on Monday evening, and a total of sixteen people have received medical attention for minor injuries, all of whom have left the hospital. According to NCC, the missing person must have worked "on direct behalf of Liseberg". - We are appalled by the accident at Oceana Vattenvärld in Gothenburg. Our thoughts go out to the relatives, friends and colleagues of the missing person. We do not want to speculate on what happened, but investigations must show what caused the accident. Right now we are focusing on assisting the emergency services, supporting our customer and taking care of our employees. According to the police, a "special incident" has been initiated due to the fire and right now the incident is being handled as a workplace accident. A little later on Monday evening, the police supplemented the classification with gross public negligence. It is unclear when more detailed technical investigations can be carried out at the fire scene, the police state. The nearby and newly built Liseberg hotel Grand Curiosa Hotel was evacuated during the day, as were several other buildings in the area. The construction of Liseberg's new major investment began in 2018 and takes place in collaboration between NCC and Liseberg and includes, among other things, an experience hotel and water park. Liseberg has budgeted the assignment at approximately two billion kroner. The hotel itself was already ready last year. The Oceana water park was supposed to be inaugurated in 2024. Oceana will be approximately 13,600 square meters in size with a swimming area of approximately 6,000 square meters indoors and 4,000 square meters outdoors. The water park is planned for, among other things, 14 rides. Oceana will accommodate approximately 1,750 people. |

Re: Waterpark in Sweden Explodes
I'm trying to figure out the cause. The black smoke is a telltale sign of plastic burning. The chain of explosions indicates a combustible gas is involved. Maybe workers had been doing some brazing and a tank leaked and filled up some spaces with gas? |

More likely, Sven was showing off for his buddies, lighting farts, and let out a huge, zeppelin-like gas ball, which then ignited and started the fire. Sven is now deleting the instagram footage. OOF DAH! |

Re: Waterpark in Sweden Explodes
The fire at the Oceana water park in Gothenburg broke out yesterday morning at 10 o'clock and large parts of the billion-dollar building are now destroyed. Films from the locations show how a powerful explosion occurred in the burnt-out building, and the fire smoke was visible over large parts of Gothenburg. On Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock the fire was under control and no smoke development is affecting the surroundings anymore, according to the rescue service. The extinguishing work continues, but is made more difficult by the risk of landslides. According to Liseberg, the fire started on the outside of the southern part of the building and then spread to the swimming pool. In the water park, there is extensive damage and some parts of the construction have collapsed, however, changing rooms, cafes, staff rooms and operating areas should have survived the fire. Liseberg Oceana Vattenvärld has cost 1.2 billion to build and was to be inaugurated in the summer. |
