Vintage Hill Climb, Andrew Mitchell Crashes His 1925 Amilcar CGS Grand Sport
He's still standing having made a full recovery. Tally 26 broken bones, a punctured lung, 6 fractured vertebrae, 6 weeks in induced coma. To be more precise: Fractured skull & facial bones, Fractured left scapular, Punctured lung, Fractured left 6-11 ribs, Grade 3 splenic injury, Left descending aorta intimal injury, Fractured L1-L4 transverse vertebrae, Fractured T4-T7 spinous vertebrae, Fractured right pelvis, Fractured laryngeal cartilage, Lip lacerations. He's still driving the car after making a full recovery. Big thanks to all the staff in the R.A.H emergency dept. Engine type of the car is an inline 4-cylinder, side-valve (SV). Displacement: 1,074 cc.Bore x Stroke: 60 mm x 95 mm. Cylinder Head: Detachable aluminum head. Carburetor: Single Solex barrel carburetor. Lubrication: Full-pressure fed lubrication system (upgraded from earlier splash-lubrication setups to survive high-speed racing). Power Output: 30 to 35 horsepower @ 4,500 rpm. Performance & DrivetrainTransmission: 3-speed manual gearbox (late models featured a 4-speed manual). Top Speed: Approximately 75 mph (120 km/h), which felt incredibly fast in an open-cockpit car with no seatbelts. |

Aw, video cut out before we can see him get dragged down the hill. An acquaintance of mine, who has a hard-on for high-end superfast cars, has had it suggested to him over and over that he should take them out to bonneville salt flats and other similar places. He complained that you can't just go out there and DO that, you need to be a member of some orgs and have full inspections and install a bunch of safety 'crap'. Live fast, die stupid, I guess. In the case of cars like this, though (that CAN'T hit 200MPH), it feels like they should be tracked 'as-was'. YMMV. :D |
