Two-storey House Collapses

Continuous, heavy monsoon showers over the preceding days in India compromised the structure, loosening the foundation of the old, dilapidated residential building.

Sensing imminent danger after noticing distinct signs of structural instability, personnel from the Fire Brigade executed a rapid evacuation of the residents right before the structure came crashing down.

The building crumbled to the ground in a matter of seconds. This failure has heightened anxieties among local residents regarding the structural integrity of historical wadas and older brick-and-timber homes across the city's central areas.

Intense monsoon conditions regularly trigger structural failures in these heritage neighborhoods, prompting civic authorities to renew structural inspections of adjacent aging buildings.

Load-bearing historic structures like wadas (built primarily with timber frames, mud-mortar and brick lime) typically undergo a slow, progressive internal failure before the final collapse occurs.

Before the collapse, residents and neighbors reported seeing sudden, deep diagonal wall cracks, jamming doors, falling chunks of plaster, and hearing distinct cracking, popping, or snapping sounds from the wooden joints.

Re: Two-storey House Collapses

In San Francisco that would still be a $2 million property.
