Two Injured when Elderly Woman Crrashes Her SUV into a Restaurant
Two people were hurt early Thursday when a woman driving an SUV slammed through an Oakland Park pizza shop. The crash happened shortly after midnight at the Downtown Pizza Grill, 906 NE 62nd St. A woman driving the SUV lost control of the vehicle,. She drove through the storefront, striking two occupants inside. The two people inside the shop, Pietro Leone, 25, and his fiancé', Felicia Nesbitt, were taken to Broward Health North where they were treated and later released. The Broward Sheriff's Office has identified the driver as Dina Nolan, 70. She has not been cited at this time, but the crash remains under investigation. Nolan was not seriously hurt in the crash. A witness told he was in the parking lot standing next to his car when the crash happened. "I heard an engine just flat out go full speed ahead. I watched this car just go through the window," he said. The SUV, a Honda CRV, was removed from the restaurant's interior. Leone, limping and with bandages on his stomach, and Nesbitt, sporting stitches, later returned to the restaurant in an unsuccessful attempt to retrieve some belongings left behind after the crash. "I think I'm having some bad luck today," she told. Shattered glass and other debris inside the shop and on the sidewalk outside was swept up and shutters were put up to cover the gaping hole in the restaurant's front window. |
