Thousands watched in horror as a small plane crashed into the sea during an air show in the Dominican Republic on Sunday, killing both pilots.
Authorities are investigating the tragedy, but say pilot error may have been the cause, according to Dominican Today, an English-language newspaper based in the capital city of Santo Domingo.
The plane appeared to nose-dive into the Caribbean Sea after the pilots attempted a complex stunt. The accident was photographed by a stunned onlookers, who were approximately 500 yards away.
The Dominican air force pilots were identified as Eduardo Rafael Sanchez, 27, and 25-year-old Carlos Manuel Guerrero. The accident took place off the coast of Santo Domingo.

"These are unfortunate, painful accidents that take place, although in this case there was a rapid response by Navy, firefighters and Air Force rescue personnel, who immediately arrived to rescue of the aircraft’s crew," the Dominican military said in a statement to diariolibre.com, a newspaper in the Dominican Republic.
The rest of the two-day “Air Show of the Caribbean," which began Saturday, was canceled.
