Trucker Pulling His Chemical-loaded Trailer on Fire Away from Other Vehicles

The 40-foot cargo truck hauling several different chemicals went up in flames early in the morning at the Flying J Truck Stop, just off Highway 99 at Jack Tone Road.

"I looked in my mirror, and the truck behind me was fully engulfed in flames. I mean, just blazing," witness Dave Gaab said.

The driver was asleep, woke up, realized it was on fire and moved the truck down to a service road.

"If he wouldn't have, there's trucks parked all around him -- all kinds of trucks. Who knows what in them trucks, not to mention the diesel fuel we're all carrying," Gaab said.

Dash cam video shows flames pouring out the back of the trailer as he pulls it away.

Ripon arson investigators are reviewing the documents detailing all chemicals on board.

It is thought to be carrying hydrochloric acid, bleach and other cleaning supplies.

Officers were told the truck was hauling 40,000 pounds of chemicals.

The driver told investigators when he got out of the truck, the back door was open.

Hazardous materials crews worked to clean up the mess.

The driver was not hurt during the fire.

My tractor caught on fire in my barn and I got on it and drove it out to an open area. I still laugh about my wife running and yelling at me to jump off.
