Re: Truck Explodes After It's Hit by a Train on Bridge
The Indonesian Railway Company, (PT KAI) is calculating losses due to the collision of the Brantas train with a heavy duty track truck at Madukoro Road's crossing in Semarang City on Tuesday night, July 18. KAI's PR Manager for Operational Area 4, Ixfan Hendri Wintoko, said the company plans to sue the truck owner for damages, if it is proven that the accident was caused by the driver's fault. However, he said that KAI would not sue the truck driver, but the owner. "We will calculate the total loss, and we will ask the truck operator to compensate," Hendri said on Wednesday, July 19. Some of the damages that he said are visible include damaged locomotives, railroad tracks that may have shifted, and the damaged bridge. Hendri said the company also suffered non-material losses such as train delays and trauma experienced by passengers. When the incident happened, there were more than 600 passengers on board. The Brantas train hit a truck that stalled at the Maduroko Road crossing on Tuesday night at 19:32. Around a minute after the truck engine died, the train bound for Blitar from Jakarta arrived, hit the truck and causing an explosion. The truck got dragged until the train stopped. The truck was then stuck on a bridge above the West Flood Canal River. The accident caused a number of train schedules to be delayed. KAI and the police were only able to evacuate the trucks and train cars from the scene on early Wednesday morning. The track can be reused at 04:28. The Traffic Accident Analysis and Forensic Laboratory teams from the Semarang City Police Resort are still investigating the incident. So far, they have not been determined the exact cause of the accident. |
