A rat crawled into the medium-voltage transformer box, triggered an electrical arc and a short circuit, resulting in a flashover. The charred remains of the rat were later recovered inside the unit. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026, at around 9:40 AM on the footpath directly outside Gate No. 3 of the Amazon office campus near Bagalur Cross in northeast Bengaluru. A 35-year-old pedestrian named Mohammed Afroz, was thrown to the ground by the blast and suffered burn injuries to his hands. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital for emergency care and was fortunately discharged the same day around 1:00 PM. A second pedestrian sustained minor scratches, while a schoolgirl walking just a few paces away narrowly escaped completely unhurt.
