Mexico. A tragic accident occurred yesterday, when a freight train collided with a fuel tanker truck on State Highway 100.

The collision took place shortly before noon near the Viborillas Bridge, located between the municipalities of Colón and El Marqués.

Authorities have confirmed at least two deaths.

Reports indicate the victims were in a private pick-up truck that was caught in the resulting inferno.

At least four others were injured. One victim was airlifted to a hospital for specialized trauma care, while three others were treated at a local medical center.

The impact triggered a massive explosion and a severe fire beneath the bridge overpass, sending a thick column of black smoke visible for several miles.

Preliminary reports and security footage suggest the tanker driver attempted to cross the tracks ahead of the oncoming train.
