Train Slams into 18 Wheeler in Texas

The accident happened on May 17th in Irving, Texas just before 5:30 p.m. at North MacArthur Boulevard between the West Irving Station and Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station.

The truck driver tried to cross the tracks just before an oncoming train, but got caught between the barrier arms. The train then smashed into the empty trailer, tearing off the back axle of the rig and causing quite a mess.

The truck driver was okay, and only one minor injury was reported on the train.

Re: Train Slams into 18 Wheeler in Texas

I lived in Texas for 15 years (Fort Worth area.) Knowing the mentality of some Texans, this does not surprise me. I lived across the street from the fire chief of Alvarado, TX. We had very windy day & Chief thought it'd be a good idea to burn trash. Nearly burned all the houses down on his side of the street! Bless their little hearts!

Yes. And our houses stateside are made of pre-stressed balsa wood and toilet paper.

I think they're just trading in weight savings in box construction for more cargo weight. It wouldn't normally be a problem if truck drivers stopped pulling in front of trains.

Thinnest possible plastic sheeting to keep the weight down.
But not the trainproof thin plastic sheeting. The other kind, that doesn't work so well.

That train stopped surprisingly fast. Full speed smash almost immediate stop.

I live in Fort Worth, TX. Thats the Trinity Rail Express. Its a passenger train that usually has 3 cars attached. I used to ride it to Dallas to go see the museums and stuff.

Re: Train Slams into 18 Wheeler in Texas

most hauler type trailers are 1/2in plywood panels with a very thin
fiberglass like skin on the outside....garbage trailers are made
from steel and some from aluminum. anything with plastic will be
considered a flatbed...
