A fast train from Bhayander went over the buffer at platform number 3 of Churchgate station and climbed onto the south-end concourse.

The incident happened around 12 noon on Sunday.

According to Shailendra Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager Western Railway the passengers inside had minor injuries. The motorman LS Tiwary also picked up slight injuries.

Damage to the coach of the train was heavy with the wheels of the train in the air, said Kumar.

36-year-old Pramod Singh, who works in the Nescafe stall barely 10 metres away from where the train halted before ramming and overshooting the buffer zone, was still shaken.

"I thought today was my last day as I saw the train coming close to me," said Singh.

Continuous whistling from the cops replaced the perennial announcement at the Churchgate station as a rake overshot the buffer zone on platform three, stopping barely 10 metres away from his stall.

As it was a Sunday there wasn't a lot of crowd at the station. "That is the reason no one lost his life. Had this been a weekday, it would have been a disaster," said Singh.

Describing the incident, he said, "Everything shook and there was smoke everywhere."

At some places, the newly levelled platform height was uprooted from the incline and overshoot of the train.
