Tourist Falls to His Death from a Handrail While Playing on His Mobile Phone
A young tourist visiting one of China's sacred Buddhist mountains fell to his death from a handrail while playing on his mobile phone. The tourist, said to be in his 20s, sat on a waist-high handrail for a rest and seemingly forgot there was nothing at his back as he was said to be playing games. He leant backwards and fell almost eight metres (26 ft) from the side of the stone staircase and rolled along the stairs at the famous Rou Shen Palace. The unnamed tourist, from Lujiang, Anhui Province, had been accompanied by his father, and the pair climbed 99 steps to the Rou Shen Palace to pray to the Buddhist gods on March 13. The victim decided to rest and sit on the waist-high handrail, which was installed to prevent tourists from accidentally falling down the cliff, and began playing on his mobile phone. Security camera footage at the popular scenic spot at Mount Jiuhua in Qingyang county captured the moment the young man falling as his body flashed in front of the camera for a split second. Two women resting below can then be seen fleeing the area as the victim's body rolls into view. Chinese media suggested the man was 'totally drawn' by his smartphone and forgot that he had nothing to lean his back on, shifting his weight behind him and ultimately tumbling off the cliff. It was not clear if he was pronounced dead at scene. Mount Jiuhua is one of China's four sacred mountains of Buddhism together with mountains Wutai, Emei and Putuo. |

So cringey. Even with out any medical training, it would be common sense to not move him about. |

I can't tell if, on his way down, he was going for points or just style. |

The girls running like Godzilla’s chasing them made me laugh. The guy that ran to him wasn’t doing him any favors by trying to yank him up. Poor guy. One stupid moment can cost you everything. |
