Trying to reconstruct that one: He has a heavily scorched bench, a butane torch at the ready and a box full of used parts in tossing distance. My guess is he had a hot bench from recently torching a part when he spilled the gas.

For whatever reason, he appears to torch parts on a regular basis.

I think they are trying to give that board a weathered look for a project. Burn the wood, rub the black off. Probably still a hot ember left on the wood when the fuel hit it.

I think it's funny how our first instinct when we're on fire is to run. As if we could get away from it if we run fast enough.
