Teenage Girl Falls 16 Ft Thru a Plasterboard Ceiling While Retrieving Phone
A supermarket cashier saved a teenage girl's life after she provided a soft landing when the girl slipped while trying to get her phone back in a Russian shopping centre. Lika Zaitseva, 19, dropped her phone over the side of the barrier next to the escalator at the Ostrava shopping centre in the city of Blagoveshchensk, Russia. After leaning over to try and retrieve it, she decided to hop over the second floor barrier. But she failed to realise that the "floor" was actually only a plasterboard roof of the supermarket below, and as the CCTV image shows, seconds after she tried to get it back - the ground gave way and she vanished into a hole. The teen fell 16 feet through a fake ceiling to land on top of a woman sitting at the checkout counter of the supermarket below. "She thought it would be easy to retrieve the phone because she could see it," said a spokesman for the shopping centre. "Unfortunately when she climbed over the safety barrier I suppose she had no way of knowing that she was stepping out on to a plasterboard ceiling that would not support her weight - that was after all why there was a barrier there." Lika suffered minor cuts and bruises in her fall - but the check-out lady who cushioned her fall was not so lucky. Mary Kornilova, 38, suffered neck injuries and is likely to be off work for a fortnight at least. The shopping centre spokesman added: "Mobile phones are a curse, this is an indication of how valuable mobile phones are to teenagers and the reckless lengths they will go to if they are parted from them. A barrier means no entry, she should have known better but when it comes to a phone common sense goes out the window." |
