An accident between two trucks caused a large fire on a highway in Arapoti, Paraná , this Wednesday, the 12th. The vehicles were transporting flammable products and collided on an overpass in the city, which is about 250 km from Curitiba. The accident happened at km 218 of PR-092 during the morning. The fire was controlled around 11 am.

The tanker truck driver, who got out of the vehicle with the help of witnesses, was treated for minor injuries by SAMU. The driver of the truck with the burning bucket, who jumped from the cabin, was treated by emergency workers from the dealership.

He suffered second-degree burns on approximately 10% of his body, in addition to bruises. Both were taken to the 18 de Dezembro Municipal Hospital.

The vehicles were transporting asphalt and naphtha.

Asphalt mix is ​​a mixture of gravel, sand and asphalt binder, used in paving streets and highways. After being applied and cooled, it is non-flammable, but during preparation and application, heating can generate flammable vapors.

Naphtha is a highly flammable liquid derived from petroleum, composed of a mixture of light hydrocarbons. It is mainly used as a raw material in the production of gasoline, solvents, plastics and other chemical products.

Traffic at the site had to be diverted to the side roads, according to the company. The Paraná Civil Police will open a police investigation to clarify the dynamics of the accident.
