Speedy Bus Hits Pedestrian Walking on the Road Looking at His Mobile Phone
A shocking accident on Wednesday March 15 in the South-West of India was captured on video, evoking grave questions not only about negligence of bus drivers but also carelessness shown by pedestrians at times. The video footage shows a youth walking along the road being suddenly hit by a bus that seemed to be in a hurry to overtake another bus. The pedestrian, who has been got flung on to roadside and some passersby are seen rushing to his help. Sources said that he suffered minor injuries in the accident. Three points are of glaring importance here - One, it may be noted that the pedestrian was busy looking down at his mobile phone while walking, somewhat carelessly, on the road. Secondly, though there was a footpath where the other pedestrians were walking, he is clearly seen walking on the road, thus endangering his own life. The third point is regarding negligence of the bus driver. It is said that the bus was overtaking the another bus at a high speed, and the driver failed to notice, or overlooked, the pedestrian in question. It is a known fact that bus drivers in the city do not care a hoot about other commuters or pedestrians. All said and done, one should remember that safety is in one's own hand. Being busy on the mobile phone while walking on the road or driving/riding, and not using footpath can turn fatal. Luckily, in this case, the injury was minor. A case has been registered in traffic west police station. |

Re: Speedy Bus Hits Pedestrian Walking on the Road Looking at His Mobile Phone
No phone call or text message is more important than your, or anyone else's, life. And you really don't want someone to have to change your Facebook status to "dead as a greasy smear on the road." Your safety is ALWAYS primarily in YOUR hands... This person now has a reminder of that because chinning the windscreen/windshield of that bus has got to hurt a lot physically, let alone having the mental pain of knowing you're all over the internet being a grade A, prize quality dumbass It looks to me a great deal like that bus driver wasn't at all familiar with the width of the vehicle they were driving. Had it been something narrower they would have missed the pedestrian by a decent margin. Unfortunately, in some places driving a bus is a very poorly paid occupation which means that they only get low grade, poor quality or inexperienced drivers to do the job. If you put that sort of driver in a large vehicle like a bus, or truck, this sort of thing, and far, far worse, is what you get as countless videos on here detail in graphic detail. Fortunately, in the western world the experiences shown in these videos has taught us to make sure that not only are potential drivers of these vehicles experienced drivers before they even start down that career path, but also that they are far more skilled and competent than Mr. and Mrs. Joe Average when they are let loose in public behind the wheel of these beasts. Unfortunately, learning from experience only comes with experience so these kinds of events will continue to happen, and will continue to be recorded, for some time... |
