He should have tried to ride it out through the ditch. If moist enough mud would act as a escape lane you see on mountain passes, even if not moist he could still just ride it out and get recovered. After his initial instinct to return to the road this easily could be achieved.

Totaly agree! I myself had simular situations although for wett roadconditions, and in one of them that resembled this video the most but on the righthand bank, i let it role forward behind the lamppost (had to choose between a frontal with a lamppost or the green grass and chose the latter). And when the ground became more flat and still having some momentum to not get stuck i steered it back on the road. Another trucker on the oposite lane saw everything happening. But in those times dashcams where not as widely used as current day's But i guess he had something to tell to his colleage's in the Bar So as long as you ignore the instinct to go back to the road ASAP , and focus on verhicle - Control , you make a chance on recovery/preventing major crash |
