This video is certainly concrete evidence of an accident.

Yeah, looks like there was some kind of mix up.

They use it to flush out the mixer body, and the trough thingies that the concrete slides down.

I never gave any thought that those cement trucks have a water reservoir. I was surprised to see so much leaking out after it wrecked. I learned something new.

Re: Sleepy Concrete Mixer Truck Driver Hits a Tree

I didn't know it either, until my father ordered concrete. They delivered it, then pulled off to the side, washed all the residue out on the dirt near his project. Then pumped the rest into the concrete drum, and drove away. By the time they get back to the batch plant, they dump it again, then load the next batch of concrete. The tanks hold a couple hundred gallons, which is a LOT.

ALSO, being the inquisitive little fuck that I am, I learned that concrete truck drums have to rotate at a certain speed by law, to insure the concrete has not settled. So that is why they rotate while they are driving, and the drums always have a design on them, so an observer like a building inspector, can count the revolutions and see if they are within the limits.

Every one I have seen rotates automatically when the truck is in the DRIVE mode. I suppose it was a problem during WWII when they were building lots of stuff, and contractors were probably using dump trucks or plain tank trucks to deliver concrete batches, and the government inspectors sounded the alarm. I have never heard of any concrete truck being busted for that as a problem.

They also use what is called a "Slump Cone" which the inspector can fill with some concrete from the batch being delivered, tap it so it is full, and then flip it over a board, and then watch what the concrete does. The harder the concrete is supposed to be (1500 psi, 2000 psi, 3000 psi load after it cures), the less slump it can have when delivered.

I specified 3000 psi concrete when I poured the foundation for my shop, because I have machine tools, like a lathe and a mill, and they weigh like a ton, each. I think a normal driveway or sidewalk gets 1000 psi concrete, or maybe 1500 psi. The driver showed me the slump test when he delivered the load to confirm for me that it was the proper concrete.

Also, I found out that in WWII, the French Resistance would add sugar to the concrete they were forced to deliver to the Germans, because that means it has no strength at all, and an enemy shell will just punch right through it. The Germans developed tests for the presence of sugar, and started to shoot the delivery driver if they found evidence that the load had been contaminated.

Who'd a thunk my brain could be loaded with so much useless information, huh?

I’m not so sure that’s useless information. Learning about the amount of gallons of water, the psi of the load and the sugar thing is really cool. It’s fun to learn about things. Thanks for the share today.

Well, then, make sure you upvote my posts about Squirrel Elements, Eastern Europeans who are hit by cars (POLES!) and that psycho bitch Laurie, who runs over people with her big truck! (Which I hear about ALL THE TIME!)
