Sleepy Bus Driver Hits Road Sign and a Tree
Malaysia, A tired bus driver, 44, and not getting enough sleep are believed to be the cause of the accident yesterday where a bus, carrying kindergarten pupils, hit a road sign and a tree. Initial investigations found that the driver admitted to falling asleep during the incident due to not getting enough rest. "The suspect who was previously arrested has been remanded for two days to assist in further investigations. Initial screening tests also found that the suspect was free from the influence of drugs or alcohol. |

Teacher, 3 Pupils Injured After Bus Crashes Into Tree 02.08.2025 - A total of 30 students of Tunas Islam Nurture Centre (Pasti) Ampang and five teachers faced an anxious moment when the bus they were travelling in overturned and crashed into a tree at Jalan Persiaran Universiti 1 Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang, here today. In the incident at around 12.18pm, a teacher and three pupils suffered minor injuries to the head due to being hit. Serdang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad said, at the time of the incident, the bus was on its way from Beryl's chocolate factory to the G2G Animal Garden at the Malaysia Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS). "Preliminary investigation found that the bus driven by a 44-year-old man in a straight line had lost control and swerved to the left before hitting a tree. As a result of the incident, a teacher and three students suffered minor injuries," he said in a statement today. According to him, all the victims have been sent to the Sultan Idris Shah Hospital, Serdang for further treatment. He said three of the injured children had sought treatment as outpatients while the accompanying teacher received several stitches on the head. He added that the case was being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. JPJ Audits Bus Company Involved in Kindergarten 03.08.2025 - The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will conduct a Safety Inspection and Audit (JISA) on bus companies involved in an accident involving a group of kindergarten students at Jalan Persiaran Universiti 1, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recently. Its director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said they had received a report on the incident yesterday and it has now been handed over to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for further investigation. "JPJ will conduct a JISA against the bus operators and will take further action after the audit report is received," he said when contacted by Bernama today. Yesterday, Serdang district police chief ACP Muhamad Farid Ahmad was reported to have said that the incident at about 12.18pm involved a bus carrying five teachers and 30 kindergarten children in a group. Dashboard camera footage that went viral on social media showed the bus losing control before crashing and hitting a tree on the route. Three children and an accompanying teacher were injured in the head and received outpatient treatment at Serdang Hospital while the bus driver was detained to assist in the investigation under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
