I've been sitting on this one since it happened. I got a load of videos + photos but had been holding out for a death photo, but still haven't come across one. So I'll just post below everything I've collected so far (sorry it's not going to be organised nor checked for duplicates!).

Employee died in an accident in the Matthew of the Curve of 90, in São Luís Maranhão.

Group Matthew confirmed early today (3) the death of a person in the accident in the Curve unit of 90, when shelves collapsed while there were several people at the scene.
According to the company, the only fatal victim was one of its employees and was identified as Elane de Oliveira Rodrigues.
Because of the tragedy, Matthew stores in the capital will be closed this Saturday.

Images of the collapse of the supermarket shelves in São Luis, Maranhão, which left injured and a fatal victim.


This Saturday morning, the Public Ministry of Labor in Maranhão (MPT-MA) informed that it will launch an investigation to investigate the causes of the accident.


In a statement, the agency states that "it will endeavor to ensure strict compliance with health and safety standards in order to prevent further accidents".


"The MPT-MA is in solidarity with family members and friends of the victims and reinforces its commitment to act in the defense of labor rights and in guaranteeing a safe and healthy work environment", says the statement.

After the accident, Grupo Mateus, a company that includes the Mix Mateus Atacarejo supermarket, released a note stating that employees followed the rescue work and that the company provided assistance and should collaborate with the authorities (see image below).


The statement added that, due to the accident, all the Mateus Group stores in São Luís will not operate this Saturday.

"The Maranhão Military Fire Brigade (CBMMA) informs that a fatal victim and eight people with minor injuries were confirmed in the accident at the Mateus da Curva do 90 supermarket in São Luís. Six injured were taken to hospitals by the CBMMA / SAMU teams and two went on their own: firefighters, public security forces, the health department, the government's military office and the human rights department mobilized their staff to locate and help the victims, in addition to assisting family members. At 8:15 pm on Friday (2), the Fire Department was called in to act on the occurrence in the supermarket, where five shelves of the place fell with all the products while there were people in. CBMMA planned and executed the operation involving 14 vehicles of the firefighters, in addition to ambulances and vehicles from other agencies, 144 military firefighters and 131 civilian firefighters. During more than 11 hours of operation, searches were made with the Military Police, Police C ivil, Health Secretariat, SAMU and Military Office of the Executive Branch. The Incident Command System was set up, where systematically, all measures inherent to the occurrence were properly executed. The State Department of Health (SES) informs that, of the eight injured people, three were assisted by the multiprofessional team of UPA do Vinhais, with abrasions and minor injuries. After attending and presenting a stable clinical picture, the patients were discharged this morning ".


The body of the young Elane de Oliveira Rodrigues, 21, is being watched at her residence, located in the Cantinho do Céu neighborhood, in São Luís-MA. She lived with her father and stepmother.

At the wake, many relatives and friends of the victim. The young woman will be buried tomorrow (4) at 2 pm in the cemetery of Pax União.

Elane Rodrigues was the victim of a tragedy at the Mix Mateus da Curva do 90, in the Vinhais neighborhood. She was working in the supermarket, when around 8 pm giant shelves with products collapsed. She and other people were hit.

The young woman did not resist and died of head trauma. The accident left eight people injured.
