Because the way the laws used to be written, victims were required to attempt to flee rather than retaliate. Some people think that this woman should have just gotten in her car and locked the doors, in order to protect herself. As stated in the video, however, Texas law had been recently changed to permit people to not retreat when threatened. It seems perfectly reasonable to me for the woman to use deadly force here. Some nutcase with a knife is making sexual advances toward her. She has a gun right there at hand. Why should she retreat and risk further harm? She was minding her own business getting gas. It's clear that the man intended to try to hurt her, either with the knife, or through rape. She gave him a chance to stop even after she got the rifle. But he didn't, so she shot him when he lunged at her again. |

I figure if a cop can kill someone for doing that and then claim self-defense, then sure as hell this person could. Cop would have shot on the first lunge anyway. And then call it "following procedure". |
