Seized Ammonium Nitrate Explodes at Police Station During Inspection
At least nine people have been killed and more than 30 others injured after a cache of confiscated explosives detonated in a police station in Srinagar, Indian-administered Kashmir’s main city. The stockpile exploded late on Friday night at a police station in the Nowgam area, south of Srinagar. One source told that identification efforts were under way as some bodies “have been completely burned”. “The intensity of the blast was such that some body parts were recovered from nearby houses, around 100-200 metres [110-220 yards] away from the police station,” the source said. Most of those killed were policemen and forensic team officials who were examining the explosives at the time of the detonation. Two officials from the Srinagar administration also died in the blast. With five people still in critical condition, the death toll could continue to climb. Not a terror attack. Police say it’s a very unfortunate incident. The blast happened when a forensics team and the police were checking the explosive material stored at the police station. |

That’s one helluva blast. It decimated everyone within those walls at the time. Unqualified people doing dangerous work and it blew up in their faces. |

Re: Seized Ammonium Nitrate Explodes at Police Station During Inspection
The combination of the chemicals, coupled with external heat from the intensified lighting, or potential fumes from the Sulphuric Acid, may have caused the premature detonation, the officials said. The officials believe the last few boxes contained a liquid substance — likely a mixture of Acetophenone, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Sulphuric Acid — and in order to examine the liquid substance closely, the lighting arrangement was scaled up, leading to the massive explosion. While Acetophenone itself is a common industrial chemical, it is a crucial precursor for creating Acetone Peroxide, a highly dangerous and sensitive improvised explosive. The combination of the chemicals, coupled with external heat from the intensified lighting, or potential fumes from the Sulphuric Acid, may have caused the premature detonation, the officials said. |

"not a terrorist attack"...bullshit. the perps waited until the police foolishly brought the package inside the police station, then detonated it remotely/with timer. the indian police just don't want to look stupid, nor do they want to acknowledge a terrorist victory. |
