Schoolbus Slams into a Four Story Residential Building in NY
On Thursday morning at approximately 7:20 a.m., an empty yellow school bus slammed into a four-story residential building located at 869 Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Surveillance footage showed the bus traveling westbound on Eastern Parkway, careening through the intersection at Albany Avenue, jumping the curb, hitting a tree and crashing directly into the building's front entrance gate and facade. Neighbors reported that the impact sounded like a bomb went off. The bus driver was a 65-year-old man who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was evaluated by first responders on-scene, suffered no serious injuries and refused medical treatment. A total of 26 tenants, consisting of 20 adults and 6 children, were displaced from their homes. The exact mechanical or medical trigger remains under active investigation by the NYPD. The bus was operated by Jofaz Transportation Inc., a company holding several active city contracts for transporting public school students. While a witness reported the driver panicked after losing his cell phone and experienced a sudden brake failure, police have not officially announced a final cause or filed any criminal charges. |
