India. A romantic honeymoon trip to Darjeeling has turned into a horrific nightmare for a newly married couple from Chopra, West Bengal.

The newlyweds, identified as Nikita Saha (Das) and her husband Souvik Das (also reported as Sameer), were enjoying a bbq session on the balcony of their homestay.

According to CCTV footage and statements from the husband, a guesthouse employee was cooking at the grill when the fire slowed down. The worker then poured a flammable liquid from a can directly onto the open flames.

The action caused an immediate, explosive fireball that directly engulfed Nikita, lighting her clothes on fire. Her husband rushed to save her, sustaining burn injuries to his hands while attempting to smother the flames.

Nikita sustained 60% severe burn injuries across her body. She was initially taken to a local health center and later moved to Anandaloke Hospital. She has since been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit at Desun Hospital in Siliguri, where she remains in critical condition, fighting for her life.

The victim's husband and family have raised severe complaints against the homestay management. The property completely lacked fire extinguishers and basic first-aid equipment. Oh India

The husband claimed that Nikita was left stranded on the balcony writhing in pain for nearly an hour without any immediate assistance or transport being arranged by the staff. They ultimately had to endure a agonizing three-hour journey to reach proper medical care.

The local police have officially registered a First Information Report against the homestay authorities for criminal negligence.

While the exact nature of the fluid is under forensic evaluation, initial reports suggest the worker may have recklessly poured petrol, turpentine, or kerosene into the live fire.

A statement attributed to management noted a worker accidentally mixed up a container, pouring a highly volatile fuel instead of an appropriate cooking/lighting agent.

Problem is that, with the angle he was holding the can, a big gob of whatever was in there flew out and covered her. Stopping dropping and rolling wouldn't have done much apart from create a roly-poly fiery woman rather than a run-around flailing fiery woman.
