AURORA, Colo. -- Aurora Police on Monday released dramatic photographs and video of an intersection crash caused by a driver who ran a red light.
The video shows the driver of a sedan ignoring a red light at S. Chambers Road and East Iliff Ave., crashing into a motorcyclist on April 30.
The motorcycle rider, Greg Edwards, was tossed into the air and suffered a fractured femur, fractured ankle, chipped teeth and a large gash on his lip, according to Aurora Police Traffic Section Commander Lt. Chuck DeShazer.
"This incident is compelling in support of the use of photo enforcement," said DeShazer. "Granted, this was an accident and someone was seriously injured in spite of the equipment being in place. But the system's purpose is to hold drivers accountable for this very type of driving behavior when an officer is not present and no accident occurs."
DeShazer says the driver of the sedan was issued a summons.
Edwards remained hospitalized Monday. DeShazer says his protective gear: a helmet, long pants and a riding jacket, helped prevent more serious injury.
