Re: Rally Car Crashes into Onlookers Wounding 7
And they've even made sure to have a wall behind them, so it would be easier to get sandwitched for good, in case of crash (which actually happened). That VW Golf was racing at a speed of 150 km/h( about 93 mph), i'm surprised that nobody died, one of them is in serious contitions though (he suffered multiple abdominal, head, spine and chest injuries) but this could have ended much much much worse. I remember that back in 1991 Rally Costa Smeralda (Juha Kankkunen with Lancia Delta Integrale 16V had reached speeds around 250 kmph in some points) there was a man with his two kids sitting OUTSIDE a curve: i told him that it would have been smarter to change place (not for him, for the kids), well not only he stuck there, he told me to mind my business. "ok, sir, i'll do it". Less than ten minutes after, the third/fourth driver (it was Liatti if memory serves, on another Delta) almost lost control of the car, he managed to stay on the track BUT it did hit some stones throwing them towards the man. And the kids. The kids were safe but he got struck by a stone riiiight in the middle of his chest. He stopped breathing for five minutes, he was already purple when the ambulance arrived. The mother of idiots is always pregnant. |
