In the city of Shakhty, Rostov region, a criminal case has been initiated into an explosion and fire at a local polyester plant.

The Investigative Committee will investigate the incident. The head of the department, Alexander Bastrykin, has already instructed his colleagues to report to him on the progress of the investigation.

It is reported that a criminal case was initiated due to violation of labor protection requirements at the enterprise.

“Currently, the circumstances of the incident are being established, eyewitnesses, victims, and representatives of the enterprise are being interrogated, documentation regarding compliance with safety and labor protection requirements is being analyzed,” explained the press service of the regional department of the investigative committee.

Meanwhile, Rospotrebnadzor initiated a study of the air condition in the vicinity of the residential buildings closest to the plant. Testing of samples was taken under special control of the department.

The emergency happened in a workshop for the production of synthetic fillers for pillows and mattresses. What caused the incident is being clarified. The authorities denied the version that a drone could have fallen on the enterprise.

As a result of the explosion, 10 people were injured . Two of them required prompt evacuation to the Rostov burn center.

Let us add that “ShPZ” was opened in June last year. The facility in Shakhty became the first enterprise in Russia to produce polyester fiber. Investments in the creation of the plant were estimated at 5 billion rubles. It became a subsidiary of the Avangard company.
