Police Officer at Checkpoint Hit Hard by Two Guys on a Bike
On the evening of August 21, while on duty at a checkpoint, Captain L.D.C, an officer of the Mobile Police Regiment, Hanoi City Police, was recklessly hit by 2 subjects on a motorbike who crashed straight into him, seriously injuring him and requiring emergency medical care. He suffered a broken left arm, a dented forehead, a brain injury, and a fractured radial wrist. He is currently receiving intensive treatment. If it can be proven that the subjects were clearly aware that there were law enforcement officers ahead, but still deliberately drove at high speed, ignoring the possible fatal consequences, then it is entirely possible to prosecute them for murder under Article 123 of the Penal Code, which could mean the sentence can range from 12 years in prison to the death penalty, in which the crime committed against a person on duty is an aggravating circumstance. In addition, the act of resisting a person on duty has a penalty ranging from non-custodial reform to 7 years in prison, while the crime of disturbing public order can be punished with up to 7 years in prison depending on the severity. |
