Police Inspector Dead, 13 People Injured when Tsunami Swing Ride Collapses

India. Yesterday between 6 and 7 PM, a popular high-speed amusement ride, the "Tsunami swing" collapsed due to a suspected mechanical failure or technical malfunction.

The ride support structure, likely a pillar or side arm, gave way, causing it to crash to the ground while carrying approx. 18 people.

As a result 13 people were injured incl. fair visitors, a child.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

A police inspector, Jagdish P., who was on duty at the fair died while attempting to rescue trapped or falling riders. He was struck by part of the collapsing structure in the head/face and succumbed to his injuries.

The collapse triggered panic among the crowded fairgoers, with bystanders and emergency services rushing to help.

Authorities immediately sealed the area, suspended all amusement rides, and launched an investigation (including a forensic probe) into possible negligence, poor maintenance, or safety lapses by the ride operator.

Legal action against the operator is expected.This was part of the ongoing 39th Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026, a major annual cultural and crafts fair in Haryana attracting large crowds.

Jagdish should have inspected the structure before attempting to rescue the trapped or falling riders.

Yep, 1-in-1 chance of that happening... Naturally I can't say if this ride is 'portable', i.e. not fixed in place at a permanent amusement venue, but here in the US I avoid travelling amusement rides because they're assembled, disassembled and trucked around constantly, and when in operation they're held together with little more than spit, baling wire and meth. :)
