Police Hunt Baby Hit and Run Driver

Police in Michigan are trying to identify a driver who backed into a woman pushing a buggy with her child inside and dragged the one-year-old a short distance before fleeing.
Authorities released video of the pushchair being hit and dragged by a minivan in the parking lot of a store in Muskegon. Police also released images of the driver in the store.
Fortunately, the mother only sufferd a scraped knee whilst her young son wasn't injured.
According to a police report, the 18-year-old Muskegon woman was pushing the buggy outside Sam's Drink All on June 25 when the van backed into her.
On the video, the van's driver stops only briefly while the mother pulls the boy out of the pushchair after he is carried across the car park attached to the rear of the vehicle.

lucky they're both still alive.

outside Sam's Drink All
Maybe the driver was intoxicated and therefore split the scene.

Police: Driver of fleeing Muskegon van that struck stroller identified, arrest warrant authorized
MUSKEGON, MI -- An arrest warrant has been authorized for a man police believe was the driver in a high-profile June 25 hit-and-run accident in Muskegon involving a baby stroller that was dragged with the child still in it, police said.

The Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office late Friday authorized a warrant charging the alleged driver with two counts of leaving the scene of a personal-injury accident, a one-year misdemeanor, and one count of driving without ever having applied for a license, a 93-day misdemeanor.

Authorities did not release the man's name immediately because the warrant had not been signed by a magistrate or judge.

Police were in the process of searching for the 20-year-old driver of the van as of late Friday afternoon, according to a Muskegon Police Department official.

In addition, a 17-year-old passenger in the van was arrested Friday afternoon on unrelated charges, the police official said.

The incident, captured on the business surveillance camera, occurred around 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Sam’s Drink All, 1500 S. Getty St., in Muskegon.

Video footage of the shocking incident was broadcasted on news networks nationwide.

Police said Aireanna Currier was pushing her son, 18-month-old Elijah Currier, through the parking lot in a stroller when a gold van backed into her, at which point the stroller got struck on the bumper of the van and was dragged with the child in it for "a short distance."

“The Curriers had been struck by a Gold Pontiac Montana mini-van containing two male subjects. Aireanna Currier was knocked to the ground, suffering minor abrasion injuries to her lower legs, while Elijah Currier’s stroller became entangled with the rear bumper of the mini-van,” police said in a press release.

“Elijah Currier was dragged a short distance before his Mother was able to remove him from the stroller before the van fled the scene with the stroller in tow. Elijah Currier suffered only minor abrasion injuries.”

Authorities in the press release expressed gratitude to “all of those who aided in the identification" of the suspects, with “special thanks to Muskegon County Sheriff’s Lt. James Christiansen and his Silent Observer (231-722-7463) program.”
