Oregon State Police released dash cam video yesterday of a motorcyclist who lost control of his bike last month on Interstate 84 in The Dalles.

The video is a great example of why it is so important to drive at the posted speed limits, to be aware of your surroundings and not be distracted police said.

"It only takes a second for something to happen that you may have to react to while keeping your vehicle under control,"

Despite the horrific nature of the crash, the motorcyclist, 31-year-old Kenneth C. Theiman, of Dallesport, Wash., suffered only minor abrasion injuries.

He later pleaded guilty to careless driving.

Trooper Michael Holloran was stopped on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of the interstate on June 18 at about 7:15 a.m. when the sliding motorcycle and tumbling Theiman passed by his patrol car.

His radar unit clocked Theiman's motorcycle at 85 mph, just before it dropped to the pavement.

Theiman told Holloran he was surprised at how quickly he lost control of his bike.

Could have been very nasty.

Is it legal in all states not to have to wear a helmet. Its a good idea to even if it is.
