Re: Philippines - Snatchers
100usd = 4400 pesos.... some people here got old in job that pays 3000-3500 a month.... even in present times the most common jobs that can be had by the common citizens here pays that low. like the road side restaurant helpers, domestic helpers, storekeepers...

Re: Philippines - Snatchers
Wow, really? That is lower than I expected. Average GDP Per capita is around $6,500 USD annually so I assumed low incomes were a bit higher, but now that I see Fiji actually has a slightly higher GDP than the Philippines. I lived in Fiji for years so I can use my knowledge of that country to help with comparison - I have friends who still live there and I know a maid will only earn about $30 to $40 USD a week. Property in Fiji is actually expensive if you want something decent, but I understand you can buy a nice apartment in the Philippines for next to nothing (compared to where I live). Always interesting to talk to people in other countries... Oh, and don't mind Shakey, he's an old balding weirdo who does this with all of the females on here. The only one who liked him turned out to be a tranny so he hasn't had much luck. |

Re: Philippines - Snatchers
Whatever GDP Philippines have at the moment it only affects the schooled and white/blue collared job. Majority of people here who needs work are either college undergraduates, high school graduates and many are just primary school graduates. Our primary school used to be just 6 years. I own a computer shop and i make a decent living from it but i still cant afford to hire someone to mind the shop at a reasonable wage rate so it is strictly minded by family members only. but i had a few persistent offers who wants to work for my shop even at 2500 a month plus keep. that's how much work means here. |

Re: Philippines - Snatchers
That must be really tough on them... sounds like the only way to live well in the Philippines is to get a good education or to own a business yourself. What is sick is that over here people who are unemployed get around $250 USD a week for doing nothing. Its easy to get unemployment payments here and if you cannot find a job they'll fund your lifestyle forever. Its true that $250 a week doesn't go far here, but if you're living in share accommodation and buying cheap food you can get by easily. I know a few unemployed people and they just get drunk, smoke weed, and play video games, and don't make any effort to find work. Then they usually complain about how they don't get enough! It's a crazy and unequal world. |

Re: Philippines - Snatchers
you can say that again. and we dont have welfare support and job assistance for people who doesnt fall into their categories of fit workers. which meant nothing to most at all because it still means you have to be a graduate of something to be qualified for job assistance. Government open a bank to help farmers and fishers and generally those who mostly havent been to school. The scheme just recently ended up that apparently the funds that were supposed to help people are being pocketed by selected few government officials.
