Fire crews in North Vancouver were dispatched for a rather unusual rescue Monday night as a paraglider got tangled in some residential power lines.

The experienced paraglider, who identified himself as Bruno to The Vancouver Sun, blamed an unexpected draft for his change in course.

According to the North Shore News, paragliders usually take off from Grouse Mountain and land at Cleveland Park. Instead, Bruno landed a kilometre away at the corner of Montroyal Boulevard and Ranger Avenue.

"We had to land on the road here and there was some cable across. I didn’t have any choice. There was a bit of a gust on the way down here," Bruno told The Province.

BC Hydro had to "de-energize" the area for the rescue, cutting off power to about 2,800 homes in North Vancouver for 50 minutes.

The gathered crowd cheered as firefighters cut the paraglider down.
