Looks more like he lost control after veering off . There's travel container up top which would suggest traveling. Some people try to really push the roadtime without some rest and he may have briefly fallen asleep. That would account for the overcorrection and veering into the opposing lane.Overtaking on an unpaved shoulder at highway speed isn't exactly a smart move. Passengers screaming and the sound of the bumpy shoulder probably startled him and this was reflexive act in a blink of an eye.

if the guy that crashed had been a safe distance behind the car in front of him that probably wouldn't have happened, because he would have seen the vehicle coming, but the guy that overtook the big rig is still an asshat =)
