Brazil. Three people died after an out-of-control truck hit vehicles on RJ-150, on Thursday morning, in the mountainous region of Rio. The victims were in one of the cars hit on the road that connects Nova Friburgo to the district of Amparo, near Parada Folly. According to police reports, the truck struck three vehicles before overturning. Two were parked, and the third was carrying four occupants—three of whom died at the scene. Family members confirmed that the deceased in the accident are Vilma A, 74, Geraldo A, 79, and Alvanir P, 73. The bodies were sent to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML). A woman walking along a side street, identified as Thainá da S.R, 30, was hit by a car and rescued, being taken to the hospital with an open fracture in her right leg and a fractured clavicle. Three other victims were also taken to the Municipal Hospital after the accident. Among them is Luciano I.C., 37, the truck driver, who suffered severe traumatic brain injury, pulmonary contusion, and neurogenic shock. The vehicle's assistant, Luiz G.O, 32, suffered minor abrasions. Zilma A.P, 72, an occupant of the car that was hit, suffered a right pneumothorax, a fractured clavicle, and required a chest drain. Video shows the truck speeding down the road before the impact. Witnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling towards Amparo when it apparently lost its brakes on a downhill stretch. |
