Onboard Video Released of Violent Crash Between 2 CapMetro Buses
Onboard video from a Capital Metro bus shows the moment of a violent crash between two of the public transit provider's buses in southeast Austin last week. One of the video angles shows the driver, who has not been identified, wearing sunglasses and holding the wheel with his left hand — his other hand resting on his leg — as the bus makes its way up South Pleasant Valley Road. The crash happened Friday, July 27 around 6:20 p.m. next to Krieg Fields in southeast Austin. An empty bus rear-ended another bus with passengers on board, sending nine people to local hospitals. In the video, the driver does not appear to slow down as he approaches the stopped bus ahead. Instead, when the bus shudders as it goes over several manhole covers, the driver puts both hands on the wheel and sits up in his seat. But it's too late. A split second later, the crash happens, sending the driver into the dash and glass flying. The bus then continues forward for several yards as the bus driver appears to look around, dazed. The driver, who is on paid administrative leave as Cap Metro investigates, was cited by police for failure to maintain a cleared and assured distance. Cellphone video taken inside the bus that was hit was released Tuesday by an attorney representing one of the passengers. Passengers can be heard groaning in pain, a woman can be heard asking someone whether they're conscious and a firefighter is shown assisting passengers onboard. |

Re: Onboard Video Released of Violent Crash Between 2 CapMetro Buses
I'm from Dallas and rode public transportation for 20 years without a single incident. That was 40 years ago. Public transportation has gotten a hell of a lot nicer since then. Driver looks like he may have gone into auto pilot mentally. |
