My 1917 REO roadster has a brake/clutch, so when you stop on a hill and push in on the clutch, the brakes automatically come on to hold you. Then as you release the clutch to drive away, the brakes come off and away you go. They advertise that even a 90 lb. woman can handle the largest REO automobile without worry. Maybe someday they'll have this on all cars. It's only been 110 years since R.E. Olds developed the system. I guess you just have to give innovation some time. |
