February 19, 2008 MANTECA, Calif. -- A security camera was rolling Monday during a dramatic crash that sent a truck careening into a Manteca home. A San Jose woman was driving the truck and had four children with her in the vehicle.
The school security camera was panning from right to left just as a BMW pulled away from the curb and into the path of the speeding pickup truck.
The impact sent the truck careening down the street before it eventually flipped and landed just 2 inches from the side of the home.
Shay Stender was driving the truck, according to the Manteca Police Department.
"She shot right out and hit my door," said Stender of the other driver. "According to the video, I lost control, hit the curb, the truck flipped and slipped over here."
Police said the tape shows Stender is considered responsible for the crash because she appeared to be driving an estimated 63 miles per hour and therefore was unable to avoid the crash, said Manteca police spokesman Rex Osborn.
Police said that because the crash didn't involve alcohol, or lead to serious injuries, citations are unlikely for either driver.
Stender and the children inside the truck were all wearing seatbelts.
No one inside the house was hurt.
School was not in session at the time of the crash.
