Minibus Hits 2 Buses After Driver Suffers a Stroke
St. Petersburg, The 71-year-old driver of the minibus suffered a stroke. His female passenger of the same age was also taken to the hospital. This is not the first stroke the driver has had, and he has very poor vision and hearing (even with a hearing aid). A substantial number of drivers have been drafted through mobilization or have voluntarily signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense. Military roles for drivers often pay more than double the standard civilian wages, creating a massive drain on the local workforce. Many drivers have left public transport for more lucrative jobs in private logistics, delivery services (like Ozon), and the booming construction sector. St. Petersburg has implemented stricter regulations on foreign workers in sectors like delivery and passenger transport. While some of these measures were eventually softened due to the economic infeasibility of a total ban, they initially increased pressure on the local labor market. Even before the war, the sector struggled with low wages and an aging workforce. The current conflict and subsequent mobilization have turned these long-term issues into what experts describe as a catastrophic situation. |
