SAGINAW, (September 7, 2024) — Shocking video showed a man atop a house after he was apparently ejected from his truck after hitting it while allegedly driving drunk.

The wreck reportedly took place at the intersection of Beechwood and Hess in Saginaw on Saturday.

Video went viral showing a man laying motionless on the roof and his truck driven into the home began to burst into flames. The 28 year old driver was transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

The family was inside when the fiery crash happened, and the damage was overwhelming.

It was shaping up to be a regular Saturday afternoon for Shaneka Cannon and her kids, but that quickly changed as she acted fast to get out of the way of truck that crashed right into her home at about 4:18 p.m.

“Material things can be replaced, but people can’t,” said Sharia Woods, Cannon’s sister.

Imagine yourself on a Saturday afternoon, loading up your car, prepping to get your kids inside. Then, suddenly, you hear a loud crashing and see truck barreling through mailboxes and signs right toward you. That’s the situation Cannon was in on Saturday, fresh on maternity leave with a newborn baby in the house.

“She was outside getting the car ready so they could come to my house. She said, she just heard a lot of bumping, boop, boop, boop, bump, bump, bump,” said Woods.

She said she had to jump out of the way to dodge the incoming truck before it crashed into her home.

“She saw the truck was on fire and the man was on top of the roof,” Woods said.

Upon arrival to the scene, police officers with the Saginaw Police Department found a 28-year-old Bridgeport Township man who apparently was ejected from the vehicle onto the roof of the house. He was severely injured and unresponsive, police said, adding the Saginaw Police Department responded to the scene and got the him down from the roof. MMR took the man to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Woods said her sister’s motherly instincts quickly kicked in after the crash happened.

“She immediately ran in the house, grabbed her baby from under the debris. He had glass all over him, wood, whatever, drywall,” Woods said.

Blessed with luck, both Cannon’s newborn and nine-year-old son came out of the crash unharmed.

“He didn’t have a scratch. He was covered in debris without a scratch,” Woods said.

That truck was lodged in her home, on fire, and caused significant damage to the home of a mother currently not working, trying to nurse her one-month-old baby.

Cannon is trying to pick up the pieces while facing the challenges of not having homeowners insurance, being on unpaid maternity leave, and figuring out how she will get her home repaired to keep a roof over the heads of her children.

That’s why Woods created a GoFundMe for her sister to help with impending repair bills and to let her sister know she’s not alone

“She don’t know where to start. So, that’s two bedrooms that were destroyed and then they’re thinking that the roof could cave in. So, the GoFundMe is just to get us started,” she said.

As of Monday, Sept. 9, the driver of the vehicle is in stable, but critical condition the police department said.

The crash is still under investigation, and factors of the crash are still unknown to police.
