I always fix my cars with engine TURNED OFF!
I guess maybe on buses you gotta keep it running with your shirt right next to it for some reason

Maybe it's just my common sense but it seems KINDA dumb to me to get your shirt so close! I think that's what got him(the shirt).

There are a lot of reasons to have it running while in the engine bay. Checking ignition coils, vaccum leaks, checking coolant leaks, coolant pressure testing, injectors and many more. The guy is for sure complacent though.
